Octopi,
Since some people thought my Starry Night piece looked like
an orgy among friendly octopi, I decided to make another
tangled group of some kind of spiral things.
Starry Night,
This highly textured piece reminded me of galaxies.
I glazed the whole thing and then wiped off the
ridges and mounds.
Strata,
This piece is two feet across each way.
The pieces are loose in a heavy-duty tray to keep
them together and safe while on display

Deborah,
I met a good friend for lunch at Panera Bread one day and
liked the pattern in the material on the seats and seat
backs in the booth.
While sketching the design in a notebook, Deborah
arrived, so I tried to include her in the sketch.
As you can see, I’m not very good at drawing people.
They still look like the people I tried to draw in
the first grade.
Anyway, I blew up the drawing
(copying to mylar) and used an overhead projector again to
trace the pattern onto two big pieces of butcher paper taped
together. Then
I pressed the outline of Deborah into the clay through the
paper. For the
texture of the material (which looked like wallpaper, I made
roller stamps with designs in them and rolled alternating
rows of “pattern” for the total wallpaper effect.
